Homecoming is right around the corner.  Be sure you are encouraging your homeroom students to be active participants in homecoming activities. 

 

September Faculty Meeting:  The monthly full hour meeting will be Monday, September 22nd at 2:30 p.m. in the Little Theater.  Grades, attendance and parent contacts will be addressed.

 

Bears for Christ:  There will be a “See You at the Pole” meeting at 6:45 a.m. at the Flag Pole on Wednesday in front of school.  All students and staff are invited to attend.

 

Extended Library Hours:  Please announce to students that the library will remain open until 3:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays for students to conduct research, check out books or read.

 

Grade Reporting for the First Six Weeks’: 
9/22 - 9:00 - Export
9/22 - 1:00 - Verify
9/23 - 9:00 - Return verifications and Re-export
9/24 - Print report cards
9/25 - Distribute report cards in TAA homeroom.  Take time to discuss the “40%” policy and student attendance policy.

Crack-a-Book:  Thank you to our librarians, Mrs. Anderson and Mr. Nettles, for sponsoring a Carencro High School student book club.  The students meet once a six week period to discuss chosen books.  Please allow members who are students in your class to attend the meeting.  The first one will be Monday, September 29th at 9:45 a.m.

 

Project Care Bears:  The CHS Student Council will conduct a Cash and School Supply Drive on Thursday, September 25th to help students of Opelousas High School recover from the damage of Hurricane Gustav.  During our TAA homeroom on Thursday, teachers are to collect monetary donations and/or school supplies from students.  Please encourage your classroom students to participate.

 

FUND RAISING ACTIVITIES - Notice Regarding Food Sales During School Time:  Teachers/Sponsors/Coaches who are conducting fund raising activities involving edible items are to instruct the students they are not to sell during school time.  Sponsors may distribute items to students during the school day but cannot sell for consumption except during the last ten minutes of each lunch shift.  Sponsors who are in violation of this procedure could face disciplinary action.  This includes concessions, meat sticks, chips, cookies, suckers, and candy related items.

 

Pep Rally Responsibilities:  During a pep rally, ALL teachers are to be inside the boys’ gym in the area of their homeroom students.  Each week, a duty team will be identified to remain outside and supervise the students who do not attend the pep rally.  Teachers and students are NOT to remain inside the buildings for ANY reason.  Duty Team One:  Downstairs Building 2 teachers (remain outside)

 

Dress Code Policy:  Teachers and all staff are to enforce the dress code policy.  During walk-throughs, the enforcement of the dress code policy in your classroom will be noted.

 

Monday, September 22:  “A Day” Regular bell schedule – First Day of Autumn

  1. Chorus will be selling candy this week.
  2. Export your six week grades by 9:00 a.m.
  3. Verifications will be ready by 1:00 p.m.  Verifications must be returned by 9:00 a.m. Tuesday.
  4. Faculty meeting in the Little Theater at 2:30 p.m.
  5. AOIT Parent meeting in Little Theater at 6:00 p.m.
  6. “In every failure is a lesson to improve.”

 

Tuesday, September 23:  “B Day” Regular bell schedule

  1. Return verifications and re-export by 9:00 a.m.
  2. Selected staff members will be attending Capturing Kids Hearts training in Eunice, La.
  3. The library will be open until 3:30 p.m.
  4. Volleyball @ Acadiana High – 4:00 p.m.
  5. “Without vision, we are blind to the opportunities.”

 

Wednesday, September 24:  “A Day” Regular bell schedule

  1. Bears for Christ will host a See You at the Pole meeting at 6:45 a.m. at the Flag Pole in front of school.  All students and staff are invited to attend.
  2. AOIT freshmen orientation in the Little Theater
  3. Junior class meeting will be held at 9:00 a.m. in the cafeteria.  Teachers who teach predominately juniors are to escort and supervise the students in the cafeteria.  All students report to class and wait to be called to the cafeteria.
  4. Selected staff members will be attending Capturing Kids Hearts training.
  5. SLT meeting at 2:30 p.m. in the library
  6. “Integrity is the value you place on yourself and it speaks volumes about who you are in regards to your character.”

 

Thursday, September 25:  “B Day” Teacher As Adviser homeroom bell schedule – Report Card Distribution

  1. Please take time in your TAA homeroom to discuss grades and attendance with your students.  Return report cards to the counseling department of students who are absent.  Also, Student Council members will collect money and supplies from the Project Care Bears.
  2. Selected staff members will be attending Capturing Kids Hearts training.
  3. The library will be open until 3:30 p.m.
  4. Volleyball @ Academy of Sacred Heart 4:00 p.m.
  5. When you develop a trusting relationship, you can be open and honest with yourself.

 

Friday, September 26:  “A Day” Tentatively a Pep bell schedule Students may wear a spirit shirt with uniform bottoms.  Teachers may wear jeans with a spirit shirt. 

  1. Tentatively we will have a Pep rally this Friday to introduce our senior football and varsity volleyball players.
  2. Friday night football vs. Sulphur in Sulphur – 7:00 p.m.
  3.  “Show proper respect to everyone even when it is not bestowed upon you.”

 

Saturday, September 27: 

  1. Volleyball @ Catholic High in New Iberia – TBA
  2. Dazzlers will conduct a Dance Clinic in the Boys’ Gym
  3. The CHS Bruin Marching Band will participate in the LHS Bandbouree at 7:00 p.m.

 

Monday, September 29:  “B Day” Regular bell schedule

  1. Agri-Science students will be selling meat sticks and Cross Country students will be selling candy this week.
  2. Crack-a-Book meeting at 9:45 a.m.
  3. English department meeting at 2:30 p.m.
  4.  “Act as if you are being watched all the time.”

September 30:       Junior ring orders with parents – library 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.

October 1:              Career Connections Workshop for selected staff

October 5 – 11:     Homecoming week:  Reliving the Legacy

October 5:              Homecoming parade in Carencro

October 6:              Homecoming court presentation; teachers will be asked to escort their classes to the front of school at 7:30 a.m. for the presentation of the Homecoming court.

October 8:              Homecoming dinner for court and senior football players

October 10:            Homecoming Pep Rally.  We will attend all four classes first, then dismiss to one 35 minute bag lunch with an outside DJ.  Students will then be asked to move to the stadium for the pep rally.  Students will be dismissed to the busses at the stadium; therefore, they need to take books and book sacks with them to the stadium.

October 10:            Homecoming game and announcement of the queen

October 11:            Homecoming dance at UL-L Ballroom.  ALL LPSS and CHS policies and rules will be enforced
