2008 Homecoming Court:  Congratulations to the following senior girls:  Chelsea Begnaud, Micranesha Brown, Brittney Domingue, Kalie Kasper, Danielle Landry, Callie Laviolette, Courtney Laviolette, Kenya Louis, Erica Noel, Courtni Robicheaux, April Savoy, Alyssa Vice.

 

Congratulations to the Lady Bears Volleyball Team for capturing second place at the Morgan City Tournament.  Well done!

 

October Faculty Meeting:  The monthly full hour meeting will be Monday, October 20that 2:30 p.m. in the Little Theater.

 

Extended Library Hours:  Please announce to students that the library will remain open until 3:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays for students to conduct research, check out books or read.

 

Crack-a-Book:  Our librarians, Mrs. Anderson and Mr. Nettles, are sponsoring a student book club.  The students meet once a six week period to discuss chosen books.  Please allow members who are students in your class to attend the meeting.  The first one will be Monday, September 29th at 9:45 a.m.

 

Project Care Bears:  Thank you to our Student Council will conducted a Cash and School Supply Drive last Thursday to help students of Opelousas High School recover from the damage of Hurricane Gustav.  We were able to collect about $1,000 dollars worth of cash and supplies.  Thank you so much for your support.

 

FUND RAISING ACTIVITIES - Notice Regarding Food Sales During School Time:  Teachers/Sponsors/Coaches who are conducting fund raising activities involving edible items are to instruct the students they are not to sell during school time.  Sponsors may distribute items to students during the school day but cannot sell for consumption except during the last ten minutes of each lunch shift.  Sponsors who are in violation of this procedure could face disciplinary action.  This includes concessions, meat sticks, chips, cookies, suckers, and candy related items.

 

October 6 – 11: “Reliving the Legacy” - Homecoming Activities and Games:

Regarding dress: No profanity, drug, alcohol, sexual symbols or inappropriate language; all clothing must be appropriate to wear at school; no tank tops, halters, or crop tops; all footwear must be closed; jeans and hats are allowed on Monday through Friday.

On Friday, October 10th, students will attend 1st – 4th  periods and then have one lunch shift.  Students will report to the stadium for pep rally activities and busses will pick students up at the stadium.  Afternoon Career Center students are excused from Career Center on Friday.  They must report to the Library during their non-class time on campus.

 

Homecoming Dance:  Homecoming dance will be held at the UL-L ballroom on Saturday, October 11th  from 7:00 – 11:00 p.m.  Dance tickets will go on sale soon!  There are no refunds on tickets.  One student must be a Carencro High student and must have a current school ID for entrance.  Students who have been removed from school for disciplinary action will not be allowed to attend the dance.  The dance is a semi-formal dance.  No jeans, tennis shoes or t-shirts allowed.  No hats or canes allowed.  Doors open at 6:00 for pictures.  You must be inside by 8:30 p.m.  The presentation of the court begins at 8:45 p.m.  Once you arrive, you may not leave until 10:00 p.m.  The dance ends at 11:00 p.m.

 

School Policies:  Teachers and all staff are to enforce all LPSS and CHS policies including dress code, IDs, tardy and hall passes.  During walk-throughs, the enforcement of the dress code and Id policies in your classroom will be noted.

 

Monday, September 29:  “B Day” Regular bell schedule

  1. Agri-Science students will be selling meat sticks and Cross Country students will be selling candy this week.
  2. Crack-a-Book meeting at 9:45 a.m.
  3. English department meeting at 2:30 p.m.
  4.  “Act as if you are being watched all the time.”

 

Tuesday, September 30:  “A Day” Regular bell schedule

  1. Senior pictures – expect some interruptions during the day
  2. Selected SLT teachers will meet with Dr. Clif St. Germain and visit with teachers at Comeaux High School
  3. Keystone meeting – 2:30 p.m.
  4. The library will be open until 3:30 p.m.
  5. Volleyball @ Lafayette High – 4:00 p.m.
  6. Parents can assist junior students to order rings in the library 4 – 7 p.m.
  7. “Focus on what you can accomplish and then work to do it.”

 

Wednesday, October 1:  “B Day” Regular bell schedule

  1. Selected staff members will be attending Career Connections workshop.
  2. Juniors will order rings during both lunch shifts.
  3. JV / Fr Football at Home vs. Northside – 5:00 p.m. – Mrs. Sampy
  4. School board meeting recognizing our Teacher of the Year – Linda Gibson – 5:30 p.m
  5. “Life is a game so be a player and not a spectator.”

 

Thursday, October 2:  “A Day” Regular bell schedule

  1. The library will be open until 3:30 p.m.
  2. Volleyball vs. Barbe High at Home - 4:00 p.m. – Mrs. Castille

Friday, October 3:  “B Day” Students may wear a spirit shirt with uniform bottoms.  Teachers may wear jeans with a spirit shirt. 

  1. Friday night football vs. East St John in La Place – 7:00 p.m.
  2.  “Do not worry about the conditions of the field, just play.”

  1. The homecoming court and senior football escorts will be presented at a special ceremony at 7:30 a.m.  All students report to their first period class and wait to be called to the front of school.

Advance Planner:

October 8:              Homecoming dinner for court and senior football players

October 10:            Homecoming Pep Rally.  We will attend all four classes first, then dismiss to one 35 minute bag lunch with an outside DJ.  Students will then be asked to move to the stadium for the pep rally.  Students will be dismissed to the busses at the stadium; therefore, they need to take books and book sacks with them to the stadium.

October 10:            Homecoming game and announcement of the queen

October 11:            Homecoming dance at UL-L Ballroom.  ALL LPSS and CHS policies and rules will be enforced

October 13:            AOIT parent meeting for freshmen at 6:00 p.m. in the Little Theater

October 14:            TAA homeroom
